The Master level of the interior architecture program at Hochschule Rhein-Main in Wiesbaden is dedicated to the conceptual exploration of the relation between space, object and material. In this workshop the students had the task to create the model of a cubic space with given proportions. Then they were asked to sculpt and position an object within this space. A relation between the space and the object had to be established by strategically perforating the outer shell and creating dramatic illumination; direct, indirect, pointed or diffused. For instance, a triangulated volume being illuminated through a triangular aperture, a cubical volume being illuminated through linear apertures along the edges of the envelope etc. The resulting photography of the models alludes to stage settings of operas, silent black and white movies, sacred spaces with altars, and rooms of dreamy domesticity. In the end of the workshop the cubes were used to compose a spatial sequence.
